Show your tamariki what it feels like to be safe and protected

Our pathway to safety and wellbeing for tamariki includes:

  • Ngaakau Hihiko waananga (programmes) focused on understanding and recognising emotions, and building resilience and healthy relationships.

  • Puna Maaramatanga one-on-one mentoring to guide rangatahi in developing healthy behaviours and relationships.

  • Te Pataka a Maui play therapy to provide a space to express their feelings and experiences and develop healthy coping mechanisms.

  • Te Haumirimiri Ngaakau Mokopuna support for tamariki and or rangatahi at risk of going into statutory care.

Tamariki are the foundation of our future, and it is important to support their wellbeing so that they thrive.

Ngaakau Hihiko
(Children's programmes)

These waananga offer tamariki opportunities to:

  • Learn to recognise and understand emotions.

  • Build self-confidence and resilience.

  • Explore how to express themselves in healthy and positive ways.

  • Understand the importance of respectful relationships.

  • Gain tools to cope with the impact of family violence.

Te Pataka a Maui
(Children's play therapy)

Te Hau Mirimiri offers a safe and nurturing space where tamariki can express their feelings and experiences through play. This therapeutic approach helps tamariki to:

  • Process difficult emotions and experiences in a non-verbal, creative way.

  • Develop healthy coping mechanisms and emotional resilience.

  • Build self-esteem and improve communication skills.

  • Work through trauma and anxiety in a supportive, child-centred setting.
