Ko wai maatou - Our story

Tuu Oho Mai Services is a not-for-profit te ao Maaori specialist family violence service provider that offers a range of 24/7 support to ensure immediate safety and restore mana among whaanau in the Waikato rohe.  We are committed to the provision of appropriate and quality services for whaanau, with a focus on ensuring a consistent inter-agency response. Our highest priorities are safety, preserving whakapapa, and restoring mana, autonomy, and integrity; while holding people accountable for their use of violence without impeding their civil rights.

We have a long history of providing specialist family violence services in the Waikato rohe. Our organisation was established as the Hamilton Abuse Intervention Project (HAIP) in July 1991 as one of the first collaborative projects providing an integrated community response to family violence. In the early 1990s, HAIP was a mainstream community response designed to monitor statutory agency responses to family violence within the Waikato rohe.

After 30 years of serving our communities, on Friday 26th February 2021 HAIP transformed into Tuu Oho Mai Services, signifying the dawn of a new era, kaupapa and focus. Our new vision is about building resilient whaanau, and our purpose is to develop loving whaanau that thrive.

We bring in-depth knowledge and expertise in understanding the dynamics of family violence, as well as a holistic approach that ensures people and whaanau receive the support they need. As a te ao Maaori service provider, Tuu Oho Mai Services upholds and reflects the values and practices of Maaori first and foremost, but we strive to ensure our services are responsive to people of all cultures.
